5 Tips for Planning the Perfect Honeymoon

The wedding is over.

It’s time to be together… where do you go?

The Honeymoon

The Honeymoon was traditionally seen as a way for newlyweds to spend time away together to celebrate their marriage. Couples often opt for luxurious, exotic or romantic getaways where they can live their best life, before getting back to hustle of the day to day.

Travelling overseas seems like a distant memory because we haven’t been able to do it for so long, but the time will soon come again and overseas travel plans will be back on the agenda.

I am not sure why, but my husband and I chose to travel to Vietnam for our honeymoon. Neither of us had been there before and from what we knew the country was beautiful, the food was amazing and there was a bit of hype about the place when we were planning. So we thought… “why not!”

TMC.Tip: ask yourself “why not” instead of “why”. It’ll change your perspective.

“Our honeymoon was our time to basque in the glory of our new marriage. We learned things about the world, about each other and discovered our love for exploring new places and travelling together”

5 tips for planning the perfect honeymoon

1. Budget

Add your honeymoon costs into the budget of your wedding, so you will spend accordingly.

Consider these and work them into your overall budget

  • accommodation and transfers
  • activities and tours
  • luxuriating and shopping

2. Travel Agent

Get yourself a travel agent you trust and spend a little extra on a tour guide. Your travel agent will be able to set you up, while your tour guide’s local knowledge, will give you a richer experience as they know all the nooks and crannies you probably wouldn’t find on your own.

If travelling overseas is not an option, local travel agents are a brilliant way to discover the romance and beauty of where you live. How many times have you been on tour in your own state?

  • romantic hideaway
  • adventure tourist
  • relaxation timeout

3. Upgrade

Ask for an upgrade! Be cheeky, you just got married for goodness sake, you are meant to celebrate!! Some hotels might grant you your wish at little to no extra cost, doesn’t hurt to ask!

  • Be sweet and mention it’s your special occasion and how much a kingsized spa suite with champagne and chocolates would mean to your new spouse
  • Use an affiliate credit card for the place you’re staying at as they may have a deal they can offer
  • Choose a new hotel as they are more likely to work on an upgrade if they have rooms to spare

4. Couple Things

Do ALL the couple things. It might sound corny, but trust me, it’ll be something you look back on and reminisce about. You might not get a chance to experience these things again together for awhile, just do it!

  • massages and yoga
  • sunset beach walks ending in cocktails
  • adventure rides and private tours

5. Spending

Don’t buy souvenirs for other people. This is your trip. Spend the time and money on each other, together. You deserve it, after all that wedding planning fun!

It’s all about you. Together. Making Memories.

  • you might simply want room service and balcony brunches with a private chef on your rooftop… spend your money there
  • splurging on artisan-crafted jewellery or an entire shipping container of furniture for your home might be more your jam
  • taking a chauffeured vehicle instead of a hire car so you can both enjoy the drive to where ever your heart desires
