Something old, something new…

…your style should always suit you.
Traditionally the old Victorian era rhyme” something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” was born from a belief that if the bride didn’t carry these items on her wedding day, she would become infertile.

It is safe to say that historical traditions and beliefs have evolved over time and brides, grooms and families are moving away from the “traditional” types of rituals, styling, and ceremonies.
Making your ceremony or special occasion your own shouldn’t be too difficult if you stick to what you know, what you love, and what you have always envisioned. You’re not supposed to know what a ceremony should look like or how to plan one if you haven’t done it before, that’s where I will help.

Ceremony styling
Some things to consider for ceremony styling:
- THEME – do you have one? Is it vintage, culturally inclusive or a small intimate affair?
- TRENDS – what’s the newest trend? Does it reflect who you are and what you represent? Is it meaningful? Do you need wow factors and talking points? What’s the focus of the day? You… You together… You, thogether in every detail?
- MUST HAVES – what have you seen and thought, “Yes! That’s me! Let’s work on that first!”

Styling inspiration.
What is it and where do I find it?
To me, inspiration is anything that evokes feelings of pure happiness, joy, and fondness. It brings hope and can help dreams come alive. It’s those things that give you an idea, something you can build on and make your own. There are so many points of inspiration that surround you on a day-to-day basis that you might not realise. It might be the one-liner from a meme that old mate from high school posted on Facebook which resonates with you, which you might drop in your vows.
It could be the song on the radio that you both belted out on the way to do your grocery shopping at Woolies that becomes “your song” and you choose to walk up the aisle to it.
Whatever it is and where you get it from, be open and feel the vibe, this is where you create your style.
If you get goosebumps, tingles and the flutter of butterflies in your tummy, then that’s the one.
Of course, there’s also the very available and very common use of social media tools such as Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Tik Tok even, that can give you some wonderful ideas for all types of occasions and ceremonies. However, be careful you don’t go down the rabbit hole and overwhelm yourself, the planning and your budget may blow out!
