As a self-professed foodie and lover of the good old date night, you need to take the time to do something different, try somewhere new and enjoy delicious meals and joyous conversations. Not just for couples, it could be for a special treat for the kids, nieces or parents or a lunch date catch up with your bestie!

Lucky Chan’s Korean BBQ Beef Noodles (GF)

1. Lucky Chan’S Laundry and Noodle Bar – 311 William Street Perth, WA.

We weren’t sure what to expect when we visited Lucky Chan’S. I had heard about the rooftop bar and how amazing the views were from up there and I loved the thought of the shopfront being a laundry, I’m all about the quirky little additions.

It was a hot Summer’s night when we visited and the beginning of our mask-wearing mandates indoors, we were not overly enthusiastic about the masks and it being sweltering hot, but we had a special reason. We had arranged to take our nieces on a date night. They had dressed up beautifully, had their hair done and were so excited for dinner and a sleepover. I think this is why Lucky Chan’S will be a memorable place for us because we got to share it with some of our favourite people.

We walked through the door and into what appeared to be a laundry, when the waiter opened the door to the restaurant, it was a little bit fun to see a restaurant set up and not an old laundry. My nieces with their sassy ways said they knew what was behind the door and it wasn’t really a laundry. Cheeky!

The atmosphere was light and the service super quick. Drinks were refreshing with a large range of local beers, spirits, cocktails and mocktails. The nieces loved their mocktails and the ability to eat the flowers that garnished their drink.

Our favourite dish of the night was the Korean BBQ Beef Noodles. A big bowl of tasty, delicious rice noodles with the most tender beef and vegetables I’ve tasted. I think my husband thought he could get away with eating the bowl himself, not a chance!!

Odyssey City Beach – Copa Cabana Mocktail and Oysters

2. Odyssey City Beach – 187 Challenger Parade, City Beach

Overlooking the beautiful Indian Ocean, Odyssea is the perfect place for a catch-up lunch with your best friends, for a rehearsal dinner, or simply somewhere to go to enjoy a beautiful meal with a lovely view.

Some of my favourite catch-ups have been here, with the relaxed vibe, coastal-themed decor, and an open dining area, Odyssey invites you to chill, share food, and indulge in a cool beverage or two. If you’re not into alcoholic beverages, try a refreshing mocktail that will make you feel like you’re on holiday somewhere!

My top pics for food are definitely the Tasmanian oysters. Freshly shucked and natural with a little lemon and lime drizzled over the top, nothing beats the freshness of these if you are an oyster fan. Keep it simple I say.

I’d also recommend the squid, coated with spices, deep-fried (give me anything deep fried!), and served with chipotle mayonnaise, this dish is sure to wow your senses and keeps you going back for more.

To balance the crispiness and spice of the squid make sure you add the Odyssey salad to your order. The refreshing greens and light lime chilli dressing balance the squid (and oysters) perfectly. The meals can be shared and I would say this was enough for 2 best friends to keep them satisfied until coffee and dessert!

3. Harry’s at Conti – 529 Wanneroo Road, Woodvale

Chef Harry Yakinthou independently manages this fine dining restaurant at Paul Conti Winery in Woodvale. This unassuming venue (is a great wedding venue also) is filled with traditional Italian charm and has a warm homely feel when you walk in. The food selection boasts local and fresh produce cooked carefully and to perfection. The word on the street is that Chef Harry oversees every dish that comes out of his kitchen and ensures he is serving you the best. The Beef Wellington is something magical and you will be lucky to have Chef Harry serve it at your table himself while he tells you a little about the dish and his inspirations behind it. You will be delighted with the quality of the food, the quantity and the little extra pieces Chef prepares for you between courses. A three-course selection will set you back $95, you won’t get better than that for a fine dining experience in the burbs! Treat your someone special to somewhere fabulous!
